Fly the Enterprise to the small snowy island west or southwest of Mysidia and interact with the swirling snowstorm. Prepare your formation before accepting the trial. Victory recruits Shiva; discovering the island alone does not complete the unlock.
What should you equip before the fight?
Use Fire. Shiva absorbs Ice and resists Water; her elementals are weak to Fire and nullify Ice. Verify every queued command, including a physical attack whose element comes from equipment. An Ice attack can restore Shiva’s HP instead of helping you finish her.
Bring party healing, Ice protection, a plan for Sleep and MP-restoring items. Fire that can reach several enemies is useful when multiple elementals appear. Rain’s Fire commands or learned Vision spells are options; use only the commands available at your current progression.
Why should you kill the elementals first?
Elementals self-destruct if left active. Their explosions can strengthen Shiva’s actions. Defeating one before it explodes makes her adopt a more cautious, defensive state. This is a trade-off: preventing the escalation can produce a longer fight against higher defenses.
- Identify the newly summoned elementals before continuing a boss-only queue.
- Use effective Fire attacks to defeat them before their self-destruct action.
- Recheck Shiva’s current buffs and the enemy timeline after the change.
- Resume Fire pressure on Shiva, preserving MP and healing for the longer guarded phase.
Do not assume destroying an elemental makes every remaining turn free of danger, or that a generic dispel command removes her defensive state. The timing and resulting state must be read in the encounter.
Handle Sleep and the major Ice warnings
Sleepga can disable the party, and other attacks add Confuse, Blind or defense problems. Protect the recovery role, then use an applicable cure through an active ally if the plan is interrupted.
Watch Whiteout and Blizzaga Barrage. Aim for a reachable Stagger before the warning resolves; otherwise defend and preserve the next recovery action. Keep MP restoration available so a safe elemental-clear plan does not end with no usable healing.
After victory, confirm Shiva in the summon menu. Her recruitment and the later Bahamut calling event are separate milestones.
