Do you need to find every party member yourself?
All eight party members join through the story. Their optional substories are separate quests: recruiting someone does not automatically finish that character’s personal quest. PowerPyx identifies blue exclamation marks as substory quest markers.
Choose a portrait to open the character’s complete personal-quest route. The table keeps the recruitment chapter separate from the quest chapter reported by the party reference. Rain joins early, for example, while his listed personal quest comes much later.
For Jake, sources disagree on the chapter label; the inn stay after Nameless Ruins is the more useful condition to check. His Token Legacy guide explains the difference. Archwitch Fina’s guide likewise distinguishes the Mysidia story condition from an imprecise chapter label.
Start and finish a personal quest
- Reach the quest chapter and return to the listed settlement or airship location.
- Find the named quest rather than accepting an unrelated marker nearby.
- Read its current objective and confirm that it appears in your quest log.
- Follow each objective through its final conversation or hand-in.
- Confirm completion in the log before marking the substory trophy objective.
Jake’s trigger needs particular attention: use a town inn after the relevant story progress, then return to Zoldaad once the quest-opening scene plays. The airship rest is not a substitute for that inn stay.
Party members, Visions and Espers are different lists
A party member takes a slot in the active team. A Vision supplies that character with commands and bonuses. An Esper is a summon. Collecting Cloud as a Vision does not add a ninth recruitable story character.
When changing a formation, check who can heal, who can protect the party and which elements are available after equipment and Vision changes. This is more useful than treating one character’s name as a complete build.
Which objectives does this resolve?
Recruiting the party contributes to Those Who Defy Fate; completing the personal quests contributes to Conscience Renewed. Keep those two checklist entries separate. A completed recruitment chapter cannot substitute for the optional quest log.
