Why couldn’t you win at Grandshelt Castle?

The chapter-1 Umbra encounter is scripted. Let its defeat and story scenes advance rather than spending rare items trying to overcome it. The winnable main confrontation covered here is at Wandering Lands in chapter 7.

An early battle card or a late-game HP figure should not be copied across both appearances. Match the story chapter before deciding that your equipment is inadequate.

Use Light and protect the attacker

Umbra’s chapter-7 version is weak to Light and resists Dark. Fina and Sakura can supply relevant Light commands, while Leah or Warrior of Light may provide additional options depending on your setup.

The dedicated guide warns that Light hits provoke a counter against the attacker, while other attacks can strengthen him. Effective damage is still useful, but the attacker’s HP and protection become part of the plan.

Do not send several weakened Light users into their turns without considering the counters. Heal or protect the next actor when that is what keeps the pressure sustainable.

Watch Seal of Conviction

Seal of Conviction is the devastating Dark attack to watch. Read the action order and remaining Stagger gauge before committing a major command. If the break is reachable, use the effective actions needed to interrupt it.

If it is not, defend and keep recovery available afterward. A failed attempt is a reason to inspect which actor died to a counter or missed recovery turn, not simply to add more ineffective attacks.

Reach the correct save point

The required route runs from Sian through Mt. Reizan, Lake Ryusei and Forest Path. The tornado blocks a direct airship landing on the floating battlefield. Use the Wandering Lands route if you are still outside the encounter.

Restore at the battlefield save point and complete the Raegen scenes before Umbra. After the victory, finish the chapter’s story transition to establish the Crystal Tower destination. This fight does not recruit Umbra as another normal party member.
