Progress through chapter 6 until Fina learns Holy and the Gronoa miasma is cleared. Then examine Bladerain Stele to start Iron Splitter. Reaching Gronoa by itself does not finish that story prerequisite.
If the required story event has not occurred, follow the Research Center route through the key-card progression, White Jade Stone and return objective. Come back to the stele after the Holy sequence rather than repeatedly inspecting an inaccessible trial.
Follow the two steles
- Enter Bladerain Stele and examine the monument to activate Iron Splitter.
- Go to the second stele northeast of the Town of Duggle. This is the trial destination, not a repeat of the starting interaction.
- Select Prove yourself when offered the challenge.
- Defeat Odin’s Shadow. The acquisition and quest references identify Lightning as its weakness.
- Travel to Nameless Ruins and speak to the Old Man in its deepest room to conclude the quest and receive Odin.
Use the save-point travel option for the Nameless Ruins return when available. The final conversation is part of the acquisition route; the fight is not the last objective.
What should you prepare for the Shadow trial?
Equip a usable Lightning command before accepting the challenge. Review the actual character’s available commands and remaining resources, rather than assuming that a Vision’s name guarantees the spell you want at its current progression.
Keep recovery available alongside your attack plan. This guide confirms the relevant attack element and quest order; it does not assign unverified equipment, precise damage requirements or an automatic victory rotation. The Vision directory helps locate the roles and unlocks you are missing.
Why is Odin still missing after the battle?
Check the Old Man hand-in at Nameless Ruins. Iron Splitter includes that conversation after Odin’s Shadow. A completed fight and a completed quest are separate checkpoints.
Once the summon has been awarded, return to the Esper directory to check the remaining acquisitions. Odin is one of the eight required before following the Bahamut airship route.
