Hell’s Rider is weak to Ice and Light; its Dark Skeleton escorts are weak to Fire and Light. Lasswell’s Ice targets the Rider well, while Rain’s Fire can control skeleton pressure. Leah and Tronn, acquired in Mitra, provide additional commands if equipped.
This is the Grandshelt Castle rescue. Fina has not joined as a normal party member yet, so do not build the plan around her later healing abilities.
Should you kill all the skeletons first?
Do not remove the last escort without considering the Rider’s next action. The dedicated encounter reference identifies a stronger special attack when the Rider is alone. Leaving one skeleton alive while concentrating on the Rider can avoid creating that condition too early.
If an area attack will defeat the last escort, check whether you can also finish the Rider in the same damage opening. If not, use single-target pressure on the boss instead of clearing the field by habit.
Manage the rescue fight
- Bring Antidote Herbs and a usable recovery command before entering the castle route.
- Build the Rider’s Stagger with Ice or Light rather than spending every action on escort gauges.
- Remove enough escort pressure to survive while watching the last-skeleton condition.
- Clear Poison when its ongoing damage makes the next enemy sequence unsafe.
- Use the boss’s Stagger opening to finish or stabilize, then reassess the remaining targets.
Poison Gas affects the party. A normal HP heal and removing Poison solve different problems; restoring HP alone leaves the ongoing damage active.
Is the following Umbra battle another required victory?
No. The chapter-1 Umbra encounter advances through a scripted defeat. Finish the rescue scenes instead of spending rare items trying to turn it into the much later winnable fight. The Umbra guide separates those appearances, and the chapter route continues through Kol and Felicitas.
