With the Enterprise available, fly to the smoking volcano in southern or southeastern Zoldaad. Interact with the crater and accept the challenge. Prepare before entering: this is the recruitment trial, not a routine overworld monster encounter.
The travel condition is airship access after the Zoldaad story events. You can return with a stronger formation if the trial is too difficult at the first opportunity.
Which element answers Fury?
Use Water. Ifrit nullifies Fire, and Water also calms his Fury. Repeated hits can enrage him, increasing offensive pressure while reducing his defenses. A formation that cannot survive that pressure should calm him rather than assume the lowered defense makes the window safe.
Bring available Water commands, magic protection, recovery and appropriate Fire resistance. Nichol’s learned Water magic is one option; an equipped Vision can add Water to another character if its required command has been unlocked.
A practical battle sequence
- Establish protection before the party is already low. Fire magic threatens several allies, while physical attacks still require a defensive response.
- Use Water to reduce the gauge and respond to an active Fury state.
- Heal before a large gauge-reduction turn. Ifrit’s trait warns of a powerful response to rapid reduction; a long queue of small attacks is not automatically a safe setup.
- Watch Fira Barrage and Scorched Earth. A reachable Stagger can stop the warned attack. Otherwise defend, preserve recovery and inspect the party’s defenses afterward.
Scorched Earth can lower physical and magic defense. Recheck those debuffs instead of assuming the protection cast at the start still describes the current formation.
If the healer loses an action
Body Slam can cause Paralysis. Keep an appropriate cure or item usable through another ally, and leave that ally enough resources to help. If several party members are low after Fire magic, do not assign every available action to damage while waiting for a disabled healer.
Winning recruits Ifrit. His summon can provide another Fire option when preparing Shiva, but there is no mandatory Ifrit-before-Shiva order: choose according to the Fire or Water commands and protection your current party actually has.
