Shinryu is Champion Battle 4, reached after Beast of Ruin in the Colosseum. The listed recommended level is 95. Higher levels improve a party’s stats, but this fight has a specific level-related counter that makes “reach 99 first” an incomplete recommendation.
Save and adjust the formation before registering. A team that survived the previous Fire-weak enemy still needs a new command plan here.
Is there an elemental weakness?
Shinryu has no ordinary elemental weakness, absorbs Water and resists Light. Choose effective non-elemental or otherwise unresisted commands with useful Stagger power. Nichol can still support a formation, but his Water damage is not a useful offensive default here.
The enemy uses several elemental breaths. Prepare Water and Wind protection and keep broad magic protection available instead of treating one resistance item as coverage for every attack.
Why should you check levels divisible by three?
The enemy trait warns that its counter becomes stronger if a party member’s level is a multiple of three. 93, 96 and 99 meet that condition. This does not make a different level automatically safe, and the sources do not establish an exact damage multiplier or a method to reduce an already earned level.
If you are preparing an eligible alternate character, consider this interaction before leveling them further. If your formation already triggers it, improve survival and reduce unnecessary attacks rather than assuming the run is impossible.
A practical response sequence
- Prepare for Tidal Wave immediately. Game8 identifies an opening use; enter with Water protection and recovery rather than waiting for low HP to reveal the threat.
- Apply necessary protection, then use efficient attacks. Shinryu can act several times and counter both physical and magic offense; weak filler hits create avoidable pressure.
- Remove Mighty Guard when it blocks meaningful progress, using available buff removal.
- If Windstorm or Tidal Wave is warned, check whether a complete Stagger is reachable. Keep healing available if it is not.
- Heal and restore protection before the break ends. A powerful post-Stagger response is an explicit trait, so the final action of a damage window may be more valuable as recovery.
Keep recovery for Petrify, Sleep, Silence and Doom as well as damage. Ordinary death immunity does not justify assuming that every countdown or disabling effect is covered; inspect the specific condition and available cure.
What does Shinryu award?
The first victory awards the Dragon Seal, an accessory that prevents ordinary encounters. It is useful for exploration, but do not assume it cancels scripted encounters or removes a visible boss. Repeat victories give the league’s consumable reward rather than another first-clear prize.
Omega is the final Champion fight. Prepare Lightning coverage and another damaging element for that encounter instead of carrying over a no-weakness rotation unchanged.
