Is Lid’s 1,000-gil shortcut required?

No. The ordinary Mt. Thunderclap path still reaches the destination. Paying Lid shortens the climb. If you take it, lower the connecting ladder when you reach its upper end so you can return between routes. The payment is a convenience decision, not a hidden requirement for the Wind Crystal.

Lid’s Earth commands are useful against Liquid Thunder at the mountain exit. Carry that plan into the correct encounter; Lightning attacks are ineffective against this enemy despite the mountain’s name.

Rescue Borin before heading to the Wind Shrine

Speak to Borin at the Dwarven Forge and follow the local objective into Mom Bomb’s fight. Prepare Water and recovery before reducing its health. Its explosion leaves four Great Bombs; clear those remaining targets to finish the encounter. Do not mistake its invulnerable transition for a request to keep attacking the same protected body.

Report and continue to Mobliz Shipyard. Optional sanctums and Ramuh are detours. If Ramuh is too difficult, you can return later rather than treating his trial as the story’s next gate.

Complete the timed escape and train pursuit

Make a manual save before the upper shipyard story sequence. Once the escape begins, the fifteen-minute limit makes unnecessary Guardian battles costly. Follow the shipyard route and lever-16 explanation instead of trying every numbered lever.

The cargo train is the onward escape, so leaving on it is not an accidental wrong exit. Adrastea pursues the train and charges Wave Cannon. Its battle guide separates Lightning/Water preparation from the machinery puzzle. Keep resources available for the pursuit instead of spending everything on optional patrols.

Restore Mechabo, then finish the Wind Shrine

Return through the Dwarven Forge events and repair Mechabo before pushing toward the crystal. Follow Wind Shrine’s accessible stairs, elevators and activated controls to its final save point. Bring Ice for Aether and for the enemies it summons; Wind is ineffective against the boss.

After the crystal events, return to Dilmagia and speak with Lid at the shipyard. Chapter 2 ends when you follow the airship departure to Olderion, rather than the instant Aether falls. Complete local shopping and any chosen Lid-related detours before boarding.
